Upper Ferntree Gully Primary School teaches Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Auslan is the language of the Deaf community in Australia. Auslan is a visual-gestural language. Signs combine with facial expressions to show different emotions and meanings of words. This engages students, allowing them to learn a language easily and in an enjoyable way.
Students use visual cues to learn and understand the Auslan language quickly. Most of our staff are learning Auslan skills. This means our students are able to practice and use their skills throughout the school.
Information regarding Learning Auslan can be found on the Victorian Curriculum website.
