Children have the right to be safe and protected, including at school. It is important that you feel confident that your child is safe and well in the care of their school. Schools are responsible for keeping children safe. Schools have to meet legal requirements for the care, safety and welfare of students. Victoria's child safe standards.
What are the standards?
There are eleven child safe standards.
- Organisations establish a culturally safe environment
- Child safety is embedded in leadership governance and culture
- Children are empowered as to their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously
- Family and community are informed and involved in Child Safety
- Diversity and equity are upheld and respected
- Only suitable staff and volunteers work with children
- Complaints processes are child focused
- Staff and volunteers are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe
- Physical and online environments promote safety, wellbeing and minimise the potential for harm
- Implantation of the standards is regularly reviewed and improved
- Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children.
